Job Roles in Graphic Design

Here are a few job roles that are identified as being under the field of Graphic Design:

• Creative/Art Director
• Layout Artist
• Flash Designer
• Technical Illustrator

• Photo-editing/ Photoshop Artist
• Photographer

Here are just a few and I am sure that there are many, many more. Three of the jobs that I have listed that appeal to me for possible future work are Brand Identity Designer, Photographer and something in the field of advertising.

One pro of being a Brand Identity designer is that it is quite a stable job as there are always products needing to be rebranded or new products needing an identity for them. The same could be said for advertising as products need to be constantly updated with the pace of new technology and so it keeps being constantly refreshed and appealing to the market and the consumer out there. A pro to being a photographer is that there are a variety of genres within the subject so there is an opportunity to specialise in one genre or in several. A con to brand identity design would be that you may have to design for products that you may not agree with and this would be the same for advertising again too. An example of this may be if you don’t agree with the ethics of a certain company.  A con to photography may be that some of the photographs that you are required to take you may not agree with either. An example of this would be if a person is against children modelling. Some more good points about the jobs is the fact that they all give the opportunity to experience a huge variety of work. It is almost guaranteed that the work that is set will never be boring as there will always be fresh projects coming in. The cons to the jobs may only be small and minimal and you may very rarely experience it in your career. To every job there will always be good and bad points.
